Policy Simulation 2019

Friday, November 15, 2019

9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Deadline: November 1, 2019 at midnight

Program Details:

World Affairs is thrilled to accept applications for its 2019 Policy Simulation. This fall, students will have the opportunity to relate the concepts and issues at the foundation of global politics with a hands-on simulation. As influential leaders in the fictional world of Politica, each team of students governs a country with a unique history, geography, and culture. You and your team must use strategy and negotiation to succeed - and survive - seeking to achieve specific territorial, security and economic objectives. In the process you will grapple with a range of complex challenges: energy security, ethnic conflict, humanitarian intervention, environmental disaster, terrorism and more.

Participants will take part of a special luncheon with former Special Counsel to President Barack Obama, Jeff Bleich and CEO of World Affairs, Philip Yun who served as Senior Policy Advisor at the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs under President Bill Clinton.

Full-time Northern California high school, community college and undergraduate students are welcome to apply.

The $100 registration fee covers participation in the student program, meals provided during the simulation and a one-year membership to the World Affairs Council. Waivers are available for students with financial need.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until Friday, October 11 at 12:59 AM. However, the earlier you submit an application, the earlier we can provide your role assignment and preparation materials.

ยท    Participants are responsible for completing a research paper, submitting it on a TBD deadline before the date of the simulation, and communicating with their group members. Deadlines and instructions for preparation will be provided after acceptance.

We will provide documentation for students who need to miss school.

Previous participants are welcomed to apply! If accepted, returning participants will be expected to act as leaders and assist first-time participants.
